During World War Two the gun batteries to the east of Dover formed a fortress and the gun batteries to the west formed another.
This plotting room was the command centre for all the batteries in the eastern Dover fortress. It was built deep underground for protection and was where radar and other information was received before sending target information out to the gun batteries within the fortress.
Access into the plotting room was via a vertical shaft and would’ve also had a number of gas decontamination chambers, a plant room that housed the ventilation fans and filters, the plotting room itself and an emergency exit via another smaller shaft.
