Berry Wiggins & Co Oil Refinery was formed in 1922 and by 1924 had a plant on the Isle of Grain. By 1929 the company had expanded with new refineries in Manchester and Stratford.

The company also acquired a large area of land and buildings at Kingsnorth, all of which once formed RAF Kingsnorth which has subsequently closed in 1920.

Bee Ness Jetty was constructed in 1937 to replace an already existing Jetty. The jetty is over 1.5miles long making it one of the longest in Britain.

The main purpose of the jetty was to deliver crude oil to the oil refinery for the production of Bitumen.

The jetty is all that remains of the Berry Wiggins & Co Oil Refinery today and is in a dilapidated state of disrepair, the landing stage at the end of the jetty still houses two cranes.
