This air raid shelter was adapted from an existing tunnel at a cement works. Evidence of the shelters former use can be seen in the narrow gauge railway track still embedded in the floor.
Benches were constructed on either side of the tunnel with the side passages within the tunnel were bricked up at adapted to be used for chemical toilets, a hand cranked ventilation system and lighting was installed, blast walls and door frames that allowed the use of gas curtains were also installed. Stencils were also painted onto the walls regarding smoking and rubbish
There are numerous pieces of pencil graffiti within the shelter as well as items of use such as bottles, kettles, shoes and clothing.
After the war the shelter was largely forgotten about until it was uncovered again recently.
