During World War Two a pair of industrial Air Raid Shelters were constructed for the employees of the Cement Works on the opposite side of the road. They are built from concrete and are covered with chalk, rubble and turf. The shelters were designed to a zig zag shape with the main entrances to them facing the cement works and the emergency exits to the rear, there are alcoves for chemical toilets and some of the fixtures that were used to attach benches to the walls are still in place.
