Built around 1940 this post was one of a number of post situated strategically alongside the Thames.
It’s purpose was to observe and then report to a naval control room the dropping of German anti-shipping magnetic parachute mines into the river so that the mine could be disposed of.
Within the post there would have been a sighting device that would have been used to record the position of the mine and a phone that went directly to the naval control room.
It square in shape and made of brick with a flat concrete roof, an entrance with an internal blast wall towards the back of the post provided entry and a large observation aperture in the front allowed the men manning the post a view of the river from Coalhouse Fort and the Swanscombe Peninsula.
It is the only post remaining out of the number that were situated in the area along the Thames.
