During World War Two this Shelter was constructed within a preexisting tunnel system.

It’s purpose was to provide shelter from Air Raids for the workers of a nearby works. The Shelter could be accessed via the works or by another entrance via a set of stairs.

Within the Shelter there were 18 bunks provided these consisted of 6 rows of 3 bunks. There was also a cubicle for a chemical toilet, what seems like ventilation shafts with an air filtration system and its own lighting. There was also wooden door frames that could be sealed with a gas curtain to stop the ingress of gas into the shelter.

The majority of the lighting system remains and even still has some of the original light bulbs in place and the switch, the wooden toilet seat for the chemical toilet remains although broken and rotted, there are also wooden remnants of the bunks slats in place and a wooden door frame that would’ve had a gas curtain attached to it.
